Merging into the world of textiles,

Suprimavera has taken on a new venture with fabric.
Designs are unique and for interior application.

Using lots of silks as a base fibre for the fabrics and the outcome is fabulous.

This is an opportunity for me to register most of my work and although I am currently an Instructor of Color and Visual Literacy in various colleges in Toronto, it is great to get back to doing some more artwork I so much enjoy. My website will be up and running and will have some recent work posted.

This will be a new series of mono prints and watercolors that will be prepared for a new exhibition running October 2009

Fire

This is a design that was quite well recieved. Although it came from a number of many sketches it suddenly made more sence as to replicate the feel of fire.

Although it usually has a mesmerising effect the white background gives it a multidimensional feel to the rug.

Silk Scarves for Rennaissance Hotel

This is a picture of a close up of one of the Front desk attire for Rennaissance Hotel.

Although very discrete, the colors used were to fit within the Hotels palette.

It was very simple and elegant. Made in silk and hand painted, the design is not evident while wearing it. It does create a beautiful contrast with the seriousness of the suit.

Wispers of rain

I had quite a time figuring what to name this piece. Although I could consider it part of the time when I was working on "Alma Trail". I like the softness if gives. This is a small version of the next design coming up in silk. Although the pallet is quite soft it lends itself to the transperancy that the medium requires. I am very happy to finish it and have on display.

This was a wonderful opportunity to work on a hands on program where I was creating samples of my work on silk to the public.

This allowed me to show how these designs were produced and an insight to the details it took to

elaborate on simple designs where members of the public could look and learn how the process was done.

This is a picture taken with me while I was busy setting up the paints for an interesting program called "Five Yards of My Soul", an Interactive On-site Textile Art Show, curated by Asma and Arshad Mahmood featuring Susan Anderson.

It was great to work in a large space again. The project was to create a beautiful saari and that ... it was.

Two tapestries at The Delta Hotel in downtown Toronto.

This was a great opportunity two illustrations I created that I was able to translate into a tapestry.

The one called The Wave is a great exercise using a blend of blue yarns that create a great transition from light blue to dark giving an effect the sea wave does when it recedes back from the sand.

These two works of art are currently hanging at the Delta Hotel in downtown Toronto in the business section of the hotel.

Arabic corners

This corner design was very interesting highlight for a beautiful detail that made a difference for a simple area rug.
Here we used it as a prop for a "Technics" advertisement.

The pathway

This is one of the most fun I had working with designing a rug.

Here we were left with just very few letf over yarns and Moshe was very clear he was not
willing to throw it out. So, here we were left with limited resources and had to come up
with an abstract design that could of course be used as a eye catcher.
The public could be mesmerized by beauty and size and color.
I think we did a good job on that one.

Going with the grain

This was an incredible opening to a simple solution for an area rug. Here the idea was to use the same wood grain and continue it into the rug. My client had very simple furniture setting but this arrived up as the Front cover of a national trade magazine and that sure made my client very happy.

Black and White waves. This piece was to resembles paint stokes as they meander through the floor. The background was an interesting blend of both yarns in order to create a muted effect.

Southern Shores was the name of this piece . The size of this piece was 6'x4' enough to make any furniture stand out. The colours used are very vibrant and tropical creating a very whimsical effect.

Movement

We ended calling this piece Movement because although it had many other variations in it interpretation, I thought it to be appropriate to elevate it to just its true meaning to action. In this same debate I recall just establishing a line a medium and the use of gradation to produce volume.

An different approach perhaps to a known image but a very subtle sensuality that gave a small hint of seduction.

Man and woman

Here is a moment in time when the subject for this tapestry was debated by many.

It was to resemble the concept of man and woman and how the two tones represent not only our differences but also our thoughts that surround us. How could you depict graphically and yet create a piece that would become a recognizable image that could be placed not only on the wall but also on the floor. Can you imagine a glass table on top of it surrounded by a black couch. I am sure it sure was a talked about piece when guests came to the table.

I can count the many other ones that came to mind but seemed a little over the top. This piece was produced back in the mid 90's and our client had a great laugh while we gave her this whimsical approach to a smile.

Great moments of experimentation

This art piece size is a beautiful process of experimentation. The original size is in fact 18'x12'.

The type of yarn used is wool and it has an interesting

play not only with color but mostly with texture. This was the culmination of all our art into this very graphic piece.

When it is reduced to a small size it has quite a different feeling than when you think of it in its actual size.

I must admit that the feeling of texture is far more evident and appealing than it does at such a small size.

This piece makes me smile, there were great moments, it was like playing music. I believe that this piece will be remembered by many as it has a good feeling in its totality.

Fern in Red

I called this piece Fern in Red because that was the name of the lady I made it for. She was very conservative lady with a great sense of humor.

We actually decided to break those rules of how space was

meant to look and change the entire format and had a great time with it. Specially playing with variations in color and lines. All her furniture was yellow and with the introduction of red we had a blast.

This piece was highlighted in the Globe and Mail's quarterly review of style. That was quite an achievement

A beautiful front entrance on Bay Street

This is our masterpiece.

We were given the opportunity to work with the existing design that was part of the architectural elements of this Historical Building downtown Toronto, Canada.

We made some samples and eventually developed a simpler center piece of the circle and then through templates we worked around creating a beautiful mandala that produces a fantastic focal point in the front entrance to the building. Here it is on the front cover of a know trade magazine.

It took skill and precision to arrive at this beautiful piece. We were all very happy to finish too.

Views of Male and Female

Very graphic and visually appealing, this piece gave away a iconic approach to Male and Female.
The mental connections and the physical dominance were reflected not only in color but in texture.

Most clients found it a challenge to seek for designs that could work for the floor, slowly the technique of wool tapestries found itself up onto the wall. This piece was a request Moshe asked me to come up with as it worked with the environment he was searching to place it in.

If we had gone down the conventional path we would not have gone very far. You have to be prepared to risk failure rather than not try.

Inspiration and Intuition

While most textile designers creating a collection are likely to choose a theme, visit the old exhibition and raid the library. Admitingly I think one allways resorts to those ways but one thing I used to like was to use music.
I found that listing to a tune produced an interesting state of mind that one could surrender too.
And that seemed to be the companion into ones own psyche.

What a funny name ...you would think, but it was as if there was the calling of peace. As the sound ran fluidly through the air and out into the Universe as a it openly requesting forgiveness.

The deadline was very close and how to bring the outdoors inside, as if the garden was just beside the door and this was just the continuation. This was a clever rendering that ended up being produced as an area rug.

I belive that it is still around somewhere and some kid is hopping on every stone as she gets to the othe side...of the garden.

Memories of Cayo Sombrero

These were great memories that through the waves and especially the colours of water and sand.

The sensory, domestic, but ultimately universal common experiences that everyone can relate to wins over the intellectual, exotic or the far flung.

I found this an excersise in color and space where we tried to find a equilibrium with contrasts of extension.

Red clouds

One of my favorite things was to go to the water and spend hours looking at the horizon and sending out my wishes to the Universe to listen to... This piece inspired me while Tasimi and I ran around looking at the clouds come and go as the sun set.

Our purpose becomes illuminated, lighting up our dreams and illustrating the road ahead. Art, design, paint, fabric, Color, texture, movement, light, beauty, quality, vitality, freedom; this is not work, it is the way of life we choose to live.

This was a beautiful moment after realising that

I was going to become an artist. It was one of my first attempts I called "The monster" as it was my first attempt to link my work into yarns in Canada. The three dimensional effect through the use of wool. I believe it is the old flag of a country once lived in and identified with was now melted into the bones of my existence.

The size is 6 x 4 ft made in 100% wool.
